Composed by Cazuza and Frejat, the song was intended for Ângela's voice, who refused to record it
It was during a phone call in 1988 that Cazuza mentioned his desire to write a song for a friend, Ângela Rô Rô. On the other end of the line was none other than his inseparable Roberto Frejat. Both were fans of the singer, who at the time was preparing a studio album.
What better moment than this to gift Ângela with a song? Frejat composed the music on the spot, and Cazuza poured all his sensitivity into lyrics that, let's say, became history. The name of the track: "Malandragem" (Slyness).
Ângela, although known for her excellent musical performances, occasionally appeared in the media portrayed as an aggressive person. Cazuza demystified this side of the artist and depicted all the humanity of the world in an image of a sensitive and innocent girl. Still, when receiving the track from Frejat and Cazuza, the singer refused to record the song. According to her, the album was already closed, and there was no room for more songs.
The fact is that "Malandragem" remained shelved until 1994 when Frejat decided to gift the song to Cássia Eller. And what a gift! The song, initially released on a self-titled album, remained among the most played for years, with all its versions being absolute hits. It is not an exaggeration to say that "Malandragem" elevated Cássia's status to a more mainstream atmosphere.
